Fundraising update

The fundraising is going very well so far. I have raised £470 which is 58% of my £800 target. I still have a long way to go and I would like to raise as much money as possible for Raleigh International.

Please help me reach above and beyond my target of £800 by making a donation:

We will be doing our sponsored cycle and run from Liverpool to Leeds in 10 days time. I will keep everyone up to date with our progress during the 3 days.

Finally, please remember why I am raising money. Raleigh International and ICS do great work within rural communities in India and really do make a difference. There are two programmes which Raleigh run in India. The rural health programme and the livelihoods programme.

The rural health programme entails:

  • Gathering data and research about sanitation facilities and healthcare in the area
  • Working with Raleigh's partner NGOs to plan and build eco-sanitation toilets: providing safe and hygienic facilities for local families
  • Organising health camps in partnership with local hospitals and doctors to provide expert advice and treatment in rural communities
  • Working with children and young people in schools, teaching them about health and hygiene

The rural livelihoods programme entails:
  • Surveying the community, obtaining information about livelihoods and the local workforce
  • Partnering with NGOs and other organisations to build cow sheds and vermi-compost units
  • Working with women's and farmers' groups introducing the idea of using organic fertilisers and pesticides, and growing crops which have higher nutritional benefits
  • Organising veterinary camps to improve the health of livestock and prevent outbreaks of disease leading to loss of income
